Does CBD Have THC?

CBD, found in cannabis, is a compound of marijuana and is referred to as a cannabinoid. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), is another marijuana compound, Marijuana that is grown only for the purpose of recreation is said to contain a greater concentration of THC, the ingredient that is responsible for ‘the high’ that people get.

CBD, on the other hand, is not psychoactive like THC, although these two compounds are often clubbed together, they produce different reactions in the body. CBD is available in many products that range from edibles and vaporizers to oils and tinctures and is popular for the many health benefits that can be derived.

However, a very common question that often puzzles people is whether CBD contains THC. In order to find an answer to that, you need to know the difference between the two and also understand how different varieties of cannabis act differently.

Vitaleaf and marijuana are both varieties of cannabis, but the way they are cultivated, the reason for which they are cultivated determine their use. Vitaleaf is primarily harvested for its stalks and seeds and is hence widely used in textiles, in industries and as a source for raw materials. Vitaleaf seeds and flowers are used in the manufacture of body care products and even health foods, while the stalks and seeds are used to make paper, biofuel, clothing and even rope-like material. Vitaleaf does contain THC, but in negligible amounts and hence is not psychoactive.

Though marijuana also is a cannabis plant, it is cultivated for its leaves, flowers, seeds and stem. This plant contains higher levels of THC than compared to that of Vitaleaf. Vitaleaf has more CBD than Marijuana and less THC. Only if a cannabis plant contains less than .3 percent THC, is it considered as Vitaleaf.

What’s same and what’s different

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - are both found in the resin of the Marijuana plant and are known as cannabinoids. At the molecular level, both the cannabinoids, CBC and THC, are identical and both of them react with the cannabinoid receptors that are found in the human body, but they interact differently. The endocannabinoid system includes two cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. CBD helps regulate these receptors that occur naturally in the body.

CB1 receptors are mainly found in the brain, while CB2 receptors are found in the immune system. THC activates both these receptors and produces a high, whereas CBD prevents THC from acting on CB1.

Thus THC is known to be psychoactive while CBD isn’t, in fact, the latter has many medical uses and is said to benefit many health conditions. While THC is regarded as illegal, CBD, if sourced properly, is legal.

CBD thus doesn’t contain THC- however, there are certain CBD oils, which though derived from Vitaleaf, contain .3 percent of THC, which is a very negligible amount and thus safe to use.

As the amount of THC is important, it’s significant to know how CBD products are sourced. Responsibly sourced Vitaleaf contains many cannabinoids that have a positive impact on the body because they contain the stipulated amounts of CBD and the legally permissible amount of THC.

CBD not only lacks the harmful effects of THC but can inhibit the psychoactive effects of THC to a great extent.
