While both CBD and THC are cannabinoids they don’t always look alike. First, CBD can’t bind to CB1 receptors like THC. This is why CBD oil without THC won’t cause a high. Furthermore, CBD largely leaves CB1 receptors alone and instead protects endogenous cannabinoids that the brain creates to attach to CB2 receptors.  

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a regulatory system that works with the brain to monitor and rebalance various other systems and organs in the body, and it is composed of CB1 and CB2 receptors and the endocannabinoids that attach to them.

When it comes to regulation of appetite, CB1 receptors will largely stimulate appetite and heighten the smell of foods. But CB2 receptors actually have the opposite effect and will quell appetite and inhibit overeating.  

With CBD protecting endocannabinoid from getting broken down too soon by enzymes, they can successfully attach to more CB2 receptors than CB1 receptors.

In Summary:

  • THC = CB1 receptors = Appetite stimulation
  • CBD = CB2 receptors = Appetite regulation

 

The Metabolism Slows Down With Age

Most of us are well aware that our metabolism slows down with age. This starts typically after we hit age 25 because we are no longer growing bones which takes a lot of work and energy. When this decline starts, we can expect our metabolisms to slow down 1-2% every single year!

Let’s say you could eat 1,800 calories in a day when you were 25 and not gain any weight, when your 45 that number comes down to 1,440, when you’re 65 that’s only 1,080 calories.
